Brian Corie will introduce us to some of NewMIC's R&D projects and we will tour NewMIC. We will spend some time in the Immersive Media Lab, NewMIC's VR facility. He will then do some demos in the lab.
Brian Corrie is a Research Scientist and the Focus Area Leader in the Immersive and Collaborative Environments (ICE) Focus Area at the New Media Innovation Centre (NewMIC). In addition, he is the Director of the NewMIC Immersive Media Lab, a state of the art media and virtual environments facility. The goal of the ICE Focus Area is to reduce the barriers between people and the technologies that they use in interacting with, and communicating about, digital data. This research focuses around the often overlapping areas of immersive environments and collaborative environments.
Brian's research interests are in computer graphics, scientific visualization, virtual environments (VE), coupling computational simulation to visualization and VE, and advanced collaborative environments. Over the last ten years Brian has been involved in the establishment of three virtual environment facilities including the Virtual Environments lab at the Australian National University (ANU) in Canberra, Australia, the Virtual Environments Technology Centre (VETC) at the National Research Council of Canada's Integrated Manufacturing Technologies Institute in London, Ontario, and the Immersive Media Lab at the New Media Innovation Centre in Vancouver, British Columbia. He was the Project Leader for the Collaborative VE project at ANU, the Technical Leader at the VETC, and is currently the Focus Area Leader for the Immersive and Collaborative Environments research program at NewMIC.
