Dr. David Baar is the CTO and Founder of IDELIX Software Inc. He is an active adventurer in computer graphics, physics, photography, rock climbing, and numerous other pursuits. Dr. Baar leads the R&D team at IDELIX that has developed Pliable Display Technology (PDT), a new visualization interface that could soon change the way you interact with data on your PC, cell phone, your PDA, and over the Internet. PDT tackles the “screen real estate” problem — the challenge of working with increasingly robust data within the confines of your display screen. PDT enables users to interact with both 2D and 3D data in a way that is both intuitive and direct. PDT reduces keystrokes and the mental costs experienced with existing visualization technologies to result in over 20% productivity gains for the end user.
Dr. Baar’s presentation will provide an introduction to PDT and how it has developed from the foundation of early research in “focus plus context” visualization. He will discuss the geometry engine behind PDT and introduce features such as the patents-pending “Undisplace” algorithm as well as the Modular Design Lens Control (MDLC) visualization interface. Demonstration applications will show you how PDT applies to geospatial analysis, digital imaging, graphic design, and 3D modeling. Dr. Baar will finish with a discussion of the current research and development efforts at IDELIX and what you can look for in upcoming versions of the PDT Software Development Kit.
