EA: the art of SSX3

Come take a behind the scenes look at how the visuals of SSX3 were created. SSX3 is the third title in the popular EA snowboarding franchise published under the EA Sports Big umbrella.
Henry and Ian will discuss the process of creating one of the most compelling games of the year, SSX3. From early inspirational references & concept art to all of the finishing touches that went into the game.
The presentation will include production designs and a breakdown of a track in construction; from the simple playable ribbon in space to all the elements that go into making the final visual look. Details about the Visual Effects techniques and Mental Ray lighting that helped put the polish on the game will also be presented.
Ian will talk about the characters, showing early sketches, finished models, and customization examples. The presentation will include movie clips of new trick animations as well as some surprises.
BIOS
Henry LaBounta – Senior Art Director
Prior to joining EA Henry was a Visual Effects Supervisor at PDI/DreamWorks. He also worked at DreamWorks SKG Feature Animation and Industrial Light & Magic. His filmography includes Minority Report, A.I., Mission Impossible 2, Forces of Nature, The Prince of Egypt, Casper, Star Trek VII. Henry was nominated for an Academy Award and won the British Academy Award for his work on Twister.
Ian Lloyd – Associate Art Director
Ian Lloyd is an Associate Art Director at EA where he has worked for 6 years with a primary focus on supervising the areas of character related Design, Modeling and Animation for the critically acclaimed and award winning SSX series of action snowboarding games (SSX, SSX Tricky and SSX3) for the Sony Playstation2, Microsoft XBOX and Nintendo Gamecube. Prior to EA Ian cut his CG teeth at Gray Matter Inc. in Toronto, Ontario working on various titles on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES), SEGA Genesis and Sony Playstation over a period of 5 years. Ian is a graduate of the 3 year Classical Animation program at Sheridan College in Oakville, Ontario.
