Who Framed Roger Rabbit - Monday October 27 - 9:30 PM
USA 1988 // Director: Robert Zemeckis // 104 min. // 35mm // PG
Who Framed Roger Rabbit is one of the most important animated films of all time. Winner of 4 academy awards, and nominated for 3 others, acclaimed by critics and very successful at the box office, the film marked the beginning of a renaissance in feature film animation, as well as being the swan song for two huge figures from an earlier age, Mel Blanc (Looney Tunes) and Mae Questel (Betty Boop). Using traditional hand painted cell animation, the filmmakers blended live action film with the cartoon world in a story that blends the two worlds together creating a fabulous and zany internal logic where the presence of the "toons" just makes sense. The story is delightful, and the film is great fun from beginning to end. Bob Hoskins turns in a pitch perfect performance as the human dragged into the middle of all this cartoon mayhem, and he manages to avoid being upstaged by his inky co-stars.
