with Matt Samia & Jeff Chamberlain

Join us for an evening with the Blizzard Entertainment® cinematics team as they share with us some of the secrets to creating their on-screen magic. The journey will take you through many of the team's creative and technical processes from story and concepting to modelling, rigging, animation, simulation, lighting, FX and compositing. Sit back and learn about the company's approach to cinematics, and then be treated to some of their most incredible work in the finest theatre in Vancouver. This is a unique and rare opportunity to gain insight into the inner workings of one of the leaders in the field.

Every time you see the Blizzard Entertainment® logo fill the screen, you know you're in for a treat. While the team have been producing computer-generated cinematics for longer, they arguably hit their stride with Diablo® II in 2000, showcasing the tale of the Wanderer. They then won a host of awards for their Warcraft® III cinematics, before creating the epic opening piece for the world's most popular massively multiplayer online role-playing game, World of Warcraft®. SPEAKERS BIOS

Jeff Chamberlain
Cinematics Project Lead

As a project lead for Blizzard Entertainment, Inc.'s cinematics department, Jeff Chamberlain guides the vision and direction of the award-winning cutscenes featured in the company's games.

Chamberlain joined Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. in 1998, immediately after graduating from James Madison University with a degree in art, emphasizing computer animation. He made an immediate impact on the team, assisting with various aspects of cinematic production on Diablo® II.

Chamberlain has also contributed to numerous other Blizzard Entertainment® games since his arrival at the company, working on Warcraft® III: Reign of Chaos™, Diablo II: Lord of Destruction™, Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne™, World of Warcraft®, World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade®, and StarCraft® II. His current project is the cinematic for World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King™.

Besides his obvious passion for computer graphics, movies, and games, Chamberlain enjoys running, soccer, racquetball, and cycling, as well as reading graphic novels.


Matt Samia
Senior Director, Cinematics

As Blizzard Entertainment, Inc.'s senior director of cinematics, Matt Samia is dedicated to ensuring that the cinematic pieces created for each Blizzard Entertainment® title maintain the high standards of quality and creativity that the company has built its reputation on.

Samia has been contributing to Blizzard Entertainment games since he joined the company in 1995 as a 3D artist, and has worked on every title from Warcraft® II: Tides of Darkness™ onward. In his current role, he oversees Blizzard Entertainment's talented and experienced cinematics team as it develops each piece from concept and storyboards to a complete, highly polished work.

Before joining Blizzard Entertainment, Samia was a professional musician, playing guitar and singing in several bands. In his spare time, he enjoys exploring the worlds of art, film, and music.

Samia holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Humboldt State University.
