Anyone wishing to register as media in order to receive Media Passes to panels or presentations should do so at least one day prior to any event by sending an email with the appropriate information (listed below) tomedia@siggraph.ca. If you show up on site un-registered and expecting to get in - expect to wait. The public will be handled first, and un-registered media will only be handled during lulls in public arrivals.
Please carefully review the requirements for media registration below and be prepared to present the appropriate documentation when registering on site.
Media Registration Guidelines
Before you email media@siggraph.ca with your request to register as media, please carefully review the categories below. You must represent a media format that fits into one of these categories, and reach a relevant industry-based audience, in order to be considered for SPARK media passes. Those requesting media registration must be currently employed by a publication or news organization. Bloggers and freelance writers will also be considered, but please note that all eligibility will be decided at the discretion of the SPARK Media team. Each representative of an applicable media organization must submit a request to register as media (i.e. if two representatives of the same organization wish to have access as media, they must each register).
For Business Trade Publications
Includes reporters and editors from magazines, newspapers, trade publications, and wire services. Must provide:
- Business card
- Current publication masthead that includes your name/editor's name
- Original letter of assignment* signed by publication executive stating that you have been retained by the publication to cover a SPARK event
- Following the festival, a copy of the published article/editorial content will be requested by SPARK
*Required of all editors and reporters to verify they have been retained to cover a SPARK event by the publication. If you are the Editor-in-Chief, you do not have to provide an Original Letter of Assignment.
For Television and Radio
Includes broadcast reporters, producers, and camera operators from news organizations. Must provide:
- Business card
- Original letter of assignment signed by station/show executive stating that you have been retained by the publication to cover a SPARK event
- Following the festival, reference to the segment will be requested by SPARK
For Freelance Writers
Freelance writers include those who have been retained to cover a SPARK event by an eligible news organization as determined by the SPARK Media Team. Freelance writers must provide:
- One (1) or more bylined articles published within the last six months
- Original letter of assignment signed by publication executive stating that they have been retained by the publication to cover a SPARK event
- Following the festival, a copy of the published article/editorial content will be requested by SPARK
For Online Publications
Includes reporters from online publications that must contain editorial content and must cover the vfx industry. The same applies to bloggers. Must provide:
- Business card
- Two (2) or more bylined articles/blogs printed from their web site
- Original letter of assignment stating that you have been retained by the web site or blog to cover a SPARK event
- Following the festival, a copy or link to the published article/editorial content will be requested by SPARK
For University Publications
Includes any reporter representing a University publication. Reporters must provide:
- Two (2) or more bylined articles published in the university publication within the last six months
- Original letter of assignment from the university stating that you have been retained by the publication to cover a SPARK event
- Following the festival, a copy of the published article/editorial content will be requested by SPARK
To be included in your email to media@siggraph.ca:
- Indication of which category you are applying under (from the list above)
- Appropriate documentation for your category (as listed under the categories, above)
- Listing of which particular panels or presentations you are requesting Media access to
- Although all requests will be considered, due to the small theatre size, there may be a limit on how many media passes will be granted for any particular panel or presentation. The SPARK Media team will inform you of which requested panel/presentation you will receive media access to
Onsite details
- If you have already registered and been given approval from the Media team on which presentations/panels you are granted Media access to, these tickets will be available for pick-up at will-call at the theatre. Valid identification needs to be presented to receive the tickets. And please note, tickets are non-tranferable.
- If you have not registered prior to the conference, you will need to do each of the steps listed under "To be included in your email to media@siggraph.ca" onsite with a SPARK Media representative.
Please note, your Media Registration DOES NOT Entitle You to the Following:
- Festival screenings
- If you are interested in covering any of the screenings as media, please send an email to media@siggraph.ca and we will forward your request to the appropriate person at the Vancouver Film Center
